Posıta : Your GPS coordinates on your wrist, ready to read out when you call for help.
Posita turns your Apple Watch into a position instrument, on a boat or in the mountains. At a glance you see coordinates, accuracy, course and speed. If you need to call for help, you read your position off your wrist while you talk, and the emergency screen shows the right number for where you are, even offline.

Why I made Posita
After getting my boating licence, I was often out on boats without a GPS unit. I wanted to see my coordinates quickly, read them clearly and pass them on accurately if I ever needed to call for help.
Marine GPS watches were expensive and couldn’t do everything my Apple Watch already does, with its GPS, barometer and altimeter. So I made Posita to put those sensors to use on the water and in the mountains: coordinates and emergency numbers for 231 countries, offline, with battery-friendly GPS.
These days I also rely on the pressure-based weather trend, the precise altitude and my speed over ground from GPS: my real speed, current included, which a small boat without a log would not give me otherwise.
What’s inside Posita
-
Coordinates in three formats
Degrees and decimal minutes, as read out on VHF; degrees, minutes and seconds, as on maps; or decimal degrees, the easiest to dictate.
-
Accuracy and fix age
Posita shows the accuracy in metres and how long ago the position was read, and keeps your last reliable fix.
-
Heading, course and speed over ground
The watch compass heading (HDG), plus course over ground (COG) and speed over ground (SOG) from GPS, in knots, km/h or mph. That is your true speed over the seabed, the one that tells you when you will arrive: a log measures speed through the water and cannot see the current. And on a small boat without a log, Posita gives it to you.
-
Weather trend from the barometer
Posita uses the watch’s barometer and altitude to estimate sea-level pressure. Its change, in hPa per hour, gives an improving, steady or worsening trend. This works offline. With a connection you also see the current weather from Apple.
-
Precise altitude
Altitude from the watch’s sensors, barometer and GPS together, with UTC time, always on your wrist.
-
Battery-aware trips
Start a trip and Posita keeps your position fresh with your wrist down, easing off the GPS while you are still.
The right emergency number, wherever you are
On Apple Watch the emergency screen works out the country offline, or at sea the nearest coast within 200 km, and shows the numbers to call: 921 numbers in 231 countries and territories, each checked against its official source. At sea VHF channel 16 always comes first. Posita never dials by itself: you tap the number and read out your coordinates. It also explains MAYDAY, PAN-PAN, SÉCURITÉ and SOS, so you use the right word on the radio.
Posita does not replace a VHF radio, an EPIRB or a call to the emergency services: it helps you say where you are.

Frequently asked questions
Does Posita know the emergency number abroad?
Yes. On Apple Watch, Posita works out the country offline, or at sea the nearest coast within 200 km, and shows the right numbers from a verified directory. In Switzerland that is 112 and Rega 1414; off Italy, VHF channel 16 and then 1530 for the Coast Guard.
Does it work without a connection?
Yes. GPS needs no network or SIM: coordinates, accuracy and emergency numbers all work offline. Only the weather needs a connection.
Which countries does it cover?
231 countries and territories, with 921 emergency numbers checked against official sources (October 2026).
Does Posita call for help for me?
No. Posita never dials or sends your position by itself: you tap the number and read your coordinates off your wrist while you talk.
Do I need my iPhone nearby?
No. The Apple Watch app works on its own, even with your iPhone far away or switched off.
Is there an Android version?
No. Posita is for Apple Watch, with a companion app for iPhone.
